Elfen Lied Episode 13 Review

Finally the last episode. Before I start the review and summary of this episode, I would like to let you know that this episode would suck if it is spoiled for you. So if any of you reading this has not seen the anime but plan on seeing it. I strongly suggest you not to read this. I would hate to think that i spoiled the ending of such a great anime. Yeah i am aware that i have already pretty much spoiled 12/13 eps of it. But the ending especially is what I don’t want to spoil. So yeah… just a heads up. For those who are still reading, here we go!

So as always lets start with the plot. First off, the army guy is owned again. But Lucy once again let’s him live. #35’s vectors were disabled by Nana last episode. And now she is resting, but heard the scientist guy said that Kurama (glasses scientist guy) is her biological father. And soon after, she sensed that Lucy is coming to her. Her vectors started to function normally again, and she killed the guy guarding her room.

Her fight with Lucy began. Since she has such a massive vector advantage over Lucy, she completely overpowered Lucy and even punched off one of her horns which made Lucy pass out instantly. Kurama then came and told #35 how much he loves her and blah blah blah. Then he picks her up and walks away knowing that the bomb inside #35 will soon kill both of them. The bomb was detonated and they both were blown up. The guy that detonated the bomb thinks he is so awesome and thinks that as soon as he kill Nana, the job will be done. But of course, Lucy rips off his head from behind. Lucy tells Nana to go back to Kouta and live with him, which is doing something she can never do. Before Lucy heads off to confront the Lab people one last time, she went to Kouta and apologized for killing his family. They have a very touching love talk for several minutes. Then the next thing you see is Lucy surrounded by soldiers that is shooting at her. All that is shown is Lucy’s second horn being shot off. So at this point everyone assumed Lucy is dead. But as Kouta and the others are eating, the dog barks. It turns out they have a visitor. Then Kouta sees a silhouette oh someone on the other side of the door. Then the episode ends.

I really like this episode. Hardly any time wasted on unnecessary repitition and other boring crap. The action is great. But this time, that is definitely not what makes this episode special. It is the plot and the characters that actually makes this a very special episode. What happened in this episode was mostly tragic, but also very touching. Yeah, usually I don’t like this kinda stuff, but this is an exception. I find none of the dialog in this one boring at all. Fascinating new pieces of information is also given. For instance, Lucy told Kouta that if she just had 5 more years, she will be able to make majority children to be born a Diclonius. And in the end, they end it in an inconclusive way. Leaves you thinking if that is Lucy on the other side of the door. Some people like it, some people don’t. But in this case, I think it works nicely with Elfen Lied. Overall a super special awesome episode.

So that is it for my reviews on Elfen Lied. Once again I HIGHLY recommend this anime to anyone who have yet to watch it. Also, leave comments. Doesn’t matter if it’s just to say thanks, constructive criticism, catch me making a mistake, or would like to share your opinion on some episodes. It just gives me and the rest of our bloggers motivation. In the future I would probably review other bloody gory anime as well. So keep an eye out for that if you are interested.

Elfen Lied Episode 12 Review

This episode is loaded with bloody gory murder scenes. Kicks so much ass. And to celebrate that, I made ALL gifs for the screen caps (yeah i know. big deal right? lol). Anyways, lets get down to business and run over the plot briefly.

So last episode ended with Nana getting her clothes ripped off. Well now she is being toyed with by #35. Just kinda toss her around. Then Kouta and Nyu came out of no where and Nana did some stuff and and disabled #35’s vectors and then escaped by falling off the bridge. Now the lab people wants to shoot Nyu and Kouta, since he has now seen too much. But not surprisingly, Nyu turns into Lucy and saved Kouta. Then she just starts massacring everyone. The bloody event made Kouta recall some traumatic memories. Just in case it is not clear to anyone by now, Lucy was the one that killed his sister and father.

After some flashbacks, the dumbass army guy just came out of no where and starts shooting at Lucy. Lucy quickly launched herself to the next bridge so she can take the fight somewhere away from Kouta.

Absolutely awesome episode. By now you should be able to tell I am really into seeing people get torn apart and stuff. And this episode has A LOT of that. Whether it’s the action or plot you are looking at, its still great. Pretty much explained everything that happened 8 years ago during and after the festival. Also, according to the scientist guy, if a lot of them shoot at Lucy at the same time she will not be able to blck them all. This theory has not really been shown in practice so far. So its an interesting piece of information i guess. Now let’s talk about stuff that I don’t like. The only real problem I have with this episode is during Kouta’s flashback, they wasted time by showing a lot of the scenes that has been shown in previous episodes. It is like as if they think the audience is so stupid that they can’t even remember what the hell happened two episodes ago. But other than that, everything else was impressive and very entertaining.

Elfen Lied Episode 11 Review

In my review of the previous episode, I have already covered the powers of Dicolnius #35.  They are planning to use her to defeat Lucy. But of course, #35 won’t just go along with this so easily. So they brings in a stupid woman that thinks she has a special bond with #35 because according to her, they are like mother and daughter. They released the Diclonius, and the woman’s theory was quickly proven wrong. Yeah I know… What a surprise.

But those guys in white lab coats are not entirely stupid. They have a backup plan. Apparently they have implanted numerous bombs inside #35’s body, and it only takes a touch of a button to blow her arm off. The only problem is the people they hire are incompetent. The guy in the control room has to SLOWEST reaction ever. It took him like 5 seconds to press the button, giving way more than enough time for #35 to do something about it. Anyways, they eventually managed to press the button and blew off the Diclonius’ arm. Understanding her situation, #35 complied with the scientists’ demands.

Now that #35 is released, Nana felt her presence and went to check it out. When Nana meets #35, she quickly got owned because she didn’t expect her vectors to be this much longer. Her clothes were ripped off and her artificial arms and legs fell off as well. And the dumbass army guy is back again for some more (as if losing 1 arm, 2 eyes, and 2 testicles are not enough), as the guy with glasses once again hires him to kill some Diclonius.

This is the second last episode of the series (not counting the special episode). So it does a good job at building tension up for the final episode. Overall I liked it. Some good things are the action, the tension building up, and #35. When I was watching Elfen Lied for the first time couple of years ago, I just had to go onto ep 12 without a break. Knowing about her powers already is pretty cool, but seeing her in action and how she owned Nana was just amazing. And of course, the dumbass army guy going back in action is always nice. What I don’t like are little plot holes and overly stupid people. These are mainly in the first 1/4 of the ep. If they had bombs in #35 all along, wouldn’t it be easier to just tell her right away BEFORE she starts punching holes in people? And I already talked about the guy in charge of the button. He literally had his finger on the button, but not only does he have to wait for orders to push the button, his reaction had a huge delay as well. And not to mention, I would expect the glass separating the people from the diclonius would at least be bullet proof. But it doesn’t seem that way. #35 easily broke the glass by throwing a human body at it. And for some reason, with only half of her body left and just been thrown super hard against a glass the stupid woman still pushed the button faster than the original guy. Sad…

Elfen Lied Episode 10 Review

Nana once again confronts Lucy and they soon engaged in a fight, but Mayu ran between them to stop the fight. No one ends up hurt, and Lucy turned back to Nyu after having a moment of flashback of Kouta. The second half of the episode is about the past of the scientist guy with glasses.

The first half of this episode is ok, nothing I feel is especially worth taking note of. But the second half of the episode was very fun to watch. It doesn’t only talk about certain characters, but shows how it all began and a lot of information about Diclonius and the research done on them. You get to see how they test the limits of their vectors by shooting at them with cannons. Good stuff. It is also confirmed that Diclonius only use their vectors on humans. I especially like how they show that the vectors are not always as strong as those of Lucy’s and Nana’s. They show how when they are younger they can only deflect regular bullets but not amour piercing rounds. And lastly the part about glasses guy’s wife was interesting as well.

There are plenty of killing and blood in this one, which is always a good thing for me.

In the end they end it by sort of introducing a super Diclonius. Number 35. The reach of her vectors are MUCH MUCH longer than average and not only that, she has 26 of them! This is gonna kick so much ass.

Overall very enjoyable episode. Nothing that i don’t like in particular, maybe except the part about about Nana eating rice with Kouta and the others. I felt like that took a little too much time than it should. Yes i know, someone is gonna say something like “But it develops the characters blah blah blah”. Yeah sure it does, but you can also say that for almost any other scenes. I can just as easily argue just by showing someone taking a dump is also character development, but probably not necessary. Ooops, did a little rant there. Anyways that’s it for now.

Elfen Lied Episode 9 Review

This entire episode is about Lucy’s past. So it begins with her meeting Kouta for the first time in some random place. Right before she kills him, Kouta excitedly said her horns are really cool. After that the two became friends and play ones in a while. At night, Lucy will go around town and choose randoms houses to live in. She will go in and kill everyone so she can take a shower and have some food. As Lucy thinks she made a good friend, Kouta told her that he has to leave, but before that they can go to the zoo. On their way back home from the zoo, Lucy asked Kouta if she can go to the festival with him. But Kouta said no because he already promised to go with his cousin. He then lied by saying his cousin is a boy when Lucy asked. On the day of the festival, Lucy found out Kouta lied. Then she went all angry and killed a lot of people. You know, doing her usual stuff.

Once again, excellent episode. This was definitely better than the last episode. Lucy’s past just gets more and more interesting. It gives the viewers a lot more background information, and after watching this episode I have a pretty good idea how Lucy ended up the way she is now. And on top of that, it further proves my theory, which is “Kouta is an idiot”. If only he didn’t lie about something he didn’t have to lie about, all this crap wouldn’t have happened. He was lying for the fun of it! What a douche bag. This series should be called “Kouta Lied” instead of Elfen Lied. Anyways, kick ass episode, go watch it.

Elfen Lied Episode 8 Review

Nana attacks Nyu and was surprised at how harmless Nyu is. After that, Nana showed Mayu her Vectors and gave her some basic information. The second half of the Episode is about Lucy’s past.

Great episode! There are some murders in this one. It’s been a while since they the last time they had that. It’s not just regular murder either, it shows Lucy killing her classmates when she was a child. Nothing sounds quite as pleasant as dying children.

Aside from the murder, Lucy’s past in general is very interesting. She was bullied because she was different. You know, the usual rules of the play ground. Most of us should know what I am talking about. And it shows how she develops the vectors, and then finally snaps and torn the bullies apart after they killed her dog. Over all a very nice episode.

Elfen Lied Episode 7 Review

Now that the dumbass army guy has met Nana, he started attacking her. Then Nana became angry and shifted into murdering mode. She defeated the army guy easily, but she did not hurt him much. After Nana went separate ways with the army guy, she walks around town trying to find food. But since she has been in the lab for her whole life, she has no idea how money works. Nana then met Mayu by chance, and her artificial leg came off while they chat. Of course, Mayu fainted after seeing that. After Mayu wakes up, they went to Kouta’s house. Once they are there, Nana sees Nyu and she charged into the house in anger.

The episode mainly focuses on Nana. I think it’s a good change ones in a while to let the side characters have more screen time and further developing their characters. The interaction between Nana and Mr. Dumbass Army Guy was interesting. The army guy shot at her, and Nana shoots out her arm, it’s just awesome. And they end that with some humor.

I also liked how Nana have absolutely zero knowledge on money and pretty much everything else in the outside world. Which in her case would be realistic. The way the episode ends makes you want to watch the next episode right away. So over all i liked this one.
